Mark Nessel and I, IMPACT Chicago instructors and trainers, left for Israel Thursday morning January 5 and arrived at the Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv Friday morning.
Ika and Lisa's home
Ika, a suited instructor for IMPACT Israel, picked us up at the airport and took us to his home in N’alleh, a gated community, to spend Shabbat with him and his family Lisa, their three daughters, and their dog Zorba. Late morning and early afternoon, Lisa and Ika prepared food for the upcoming Shabbat.
In the afternoon, Ika took Mark, his daughter Tamar, and me to a nearby park in Modi-in, a city located about halfway between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. The park had a lake, huge playground structure, bike and walking paths, and dinosaurs scattered throughout the park. We had a peaceful walk around the park and then returned to N’alleh in time to get ready for Shabbat.

The pace of life in this religious family is so different from my ordinary pace, but was one that I very much appreciated. The evening and next day were all that I understand Shabbat to be—joyful and restful.
Take-away: Make it a priority to take a one-day "sabbatical" once a week.
